June Seafari Wrap Up

Hey guys and girls
We had another successful guided trip at the end of July, the weather luckily gave us a gap, and we really did have some stunning winter mornings fishing. The albatross, gar fish and salad fish where a curse at times and the guys had battle to get a bait out, with the baits being snatched up buy one of these pests. But that’s fishing and it was great to be on the water in such a stunning setting.

We had a bit of an easterly swell wrapping into the bay with a 3 foot wave coming through every now and then. I think all the guys got their confidence up and learnt loads and handled the surf with ease.

We tied traces and did knot tying clinics in the evenings, ready for the next day’s fishing, and what days we had, with perfect winter’s morning. The guys were soon into some snoek with Deon losing one at the gaff. With a bit of help on the water with the tying on a two snoek fillet, Martin was soon double up, but unfortunately he lost the one. Pictured below is the prize monster 7,6kg natal snoek Martin did get in the hatch.

On the last night we had a great sea food braai of crayfish and natal snoek and generally a great time was had by all.

Below is a letter from the guys who attended

“On behalf of Martin and myself we would like to express our sincere thanks to both you and Michael for the trip to Jex Beach. Your hospitality was superb, your time you both spent showing us how to tie traces and baits, the guidance you gave us to go out through the surf and come back in again was just fantastic to say the least, and your concern about our safety was much appreciated. I would definitely recommend this trip to anyone who is new to the sport and needs that little push to advance them from a very sheltered launch to facing the surf and learning their capabilities. Both of us learnt so much and we now need to go out there and practice some to achieve what we ultimately want and that is to be confident enough to launch at the better fishing spots.

We wish you all the best for your holiday in Bali and look forward to seeing you when you get back. Again many, many thanks.
Mike Varty, Marten DeLange”

So, on that note I am looking at doing a guide trip to Mozambique in October 2012 (dates to be confirmed shortly) this will be to southern Mozam, +/-6 hours from Durban. The trip will be the same as a Blythdale trip with food included as well as the bait, own transport is required and a 4x4 will be need to get to the venue but I will co- ordinate the transport so as to take as few vehicles as possible & share the costs.

The idea for this trip is to target the more exotic species around at that time of year like Dorado’s, sailfish, couta and kingfish species.

For more information on this trip please contact me for more details

The next trip to Blythdale will be in December over the first weekend there are only five spots open on each trip please get hold of me and secure your spot so you do miss out!

Cheers Markus
