Best way to get over the winter Blues!

So we have made it through the heart of the winter, and we can see the Spring light at the end of the tunnel. But word is out that Rhenosterkop is producing some spectacular Winter Bass, and so a few of us Mal kayak anglers are looking to fill up our flasks and make a day trip to this beautiful Dam. We are looking for a date that suits as many as possible, so please let me know if this may interest you.

The last season of freshwater kayak fishing competitions was eventually won by Lloyd Piater, also known as Blonde Elvis. He proved that bait is not always the best way to catch freshwater species, and that his skill with a fly rod is a force to be rekoned with. Well done Lloyd! Now we will have to see if Lloyd can be the first to defend this title when the season starts early Spring.

The Gauteng kayak fishing club has gained new momentum with Willem from Angling Africa taking the Bull by the Horns. We had a strong representation at the Paindane species challenge which took place at the end of May. Check out the Gallery on the Hunter Ski website for some jaw dropping footage. Us Gautengers are definitely closing the gap in terms of saltwater fishing on the Durban boys. We are looking to get a 2 phase competition against the Kwazulu clubs, one freshwater and one saltwater, which is a really exciting prospect. So get involved asap.

There is a small boat bass fishing competition at Boschkop on the 20th and 21st of August. Kayaks are allowed.

I look forward to seeing you on the water!
